As a Phoenix, Arizona Wedding Photographer , Jennifer Hayward Photography analyzes each and every venue and decides which lighting technique would be the best. Often, reception halls are very dark with mood lighting. Thus, some sort of flash must be used. There are many different ways to use a hot shoe flash. But when using it on camera, it is not advised to point the flash directly at the subject during wedding photography this causes harsh shadows as well as shiny spots on the face. One method to soften the light is to bounce it off of a ceiling or wall. This works best if the walls or ceilings are white and not too far away. Bounce cards are also helpful to bounce some of the light forward and light up the subjects face.
