As I mentioned before, the first step in wedding planning is to get your budget nailed down! After that, it is time to choose your wedding party and start making a guest list! For some brides and grooms, choosing a wedding party is easy! You have two or three best friends and you know exactly who to ask! If you are like me though, you have so many friends that you want to be a part of your big day! As a Phoenix, Arizona Wedding Photographer, I would say the ideal size is no more than 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen. For photography, I actually prefer smaller, but it is your big day and your choice!
However, narrowing it down might be the hard part. Think about who has played the most important role in your life and also who you see yourself remaining friends with for years to come! I haven’t talked to a couple of my bridesmaids in years and more than likely we will just keep drifting apart, but a few of them, I am still best friends with! Also, when choosing a Maid of Honor you may want to think about proximity. If you have moved away and are not living close to your best friend, just realize that she will not be able to be there and support you throughout the whole process. She may not be able to help you plan or plan a bachelorette party. Don’t be upset, but just understand that distance makes it harder. If there is someone closer that you are thinking about, that may be the better option. Your friends will understand!
The next thing you need to do is start working on your guest list. Do you want a big wedding or a small more intimate wedding? Do want everyone you know there or just close family and friends? This will determine the feel of your whole wedding. Knowing this will help in all the rest of the planning process–in choosing a venue, a caterer, even the length of time you may need a wedding photographer for.
